PMB Technical Data Sheet – PG 76E-10

High-performance SBS modified bitumen designed for extreme climatic conditions and heavy traffic loading (>50 million ESALs) such as toll plazas and port facilities. Conforms to QCS 2024 Table 5.5 and AASHTO M 320 / M 332.

Description

IPS PG 76E-10 is a high-performance SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) modified bitumen. This elastic binder greatly enhances the resistance to permanent deformation and fatigue cracking of asphalt mixtures. It is designed for use as a binder for asphalt mixes in extreme climatic conditions and areas of extremely high traffic where there is risk of permanent deformation (rutting), fatigue cracking, and thermal cracking.

As described in the AASHTO MP 19 performance grade specification, the Extremely High Grade “E” is typically used for traffic levels greater than 50 million Equivalent Single Axle Loads (ESALs) and standing traffic (<20 km/h) such as toll plazas or port facilities. The introduction of SBS polymer forms a stable, three-dimensional network within the bitumen, giving substantially improved properties compared with conventional bitumen.

Deformation Resistance

Greatly enhances resistance to permanent deformation (rutting) and thermal cracking under standing traffic (<20 km/h). Reduced temperature susceptibility and increased stiffness modulus.

SBS Polymer Network

Forms a stable, three-dimensional elastic network with high cohesive strength, substantially increased elasticity, improved adhesion, and superior fatigue performance.

Environmental Benefits

Optimizes aggregate packing while reducing energy consumption, VOC, CO2, SO2, and NOx emissions during production.

Summary of Benefits

Greater resistance to permanent deformation
Improved fatigue performance
Increased resistance to reflective cracking
Provides a durable surface of high cohesive strength
Improves adhesion between wearing and base course
Greater ability to absorb thermal movements

PMB PG76E-10 conforms to QCS-2024 Section 6 Part 5.2.6 Table 5.5, AASHTO M320 / ASTM D6373 with MSCR per AASHTO M332 / ASTM D8239, and Ashghal IAN 100 Table 5.5 for Polymer-Modified Asphalt Binders. Third-party verification by Exova (Ashghal approved laboratory) confirms compliance with PG76E-10 classification.

Recommended Mixing & Compaction Temperatures

Strict adherence to temperature parameters guarantees optimal polymer integration without thermal degradation. Breakdown rolling should be completed by the time mix temperature reaches 140°C (−5°C tolerance).

Plant HMA Mixing 160°C – 170°C
Field Compaction 150°C – 155°C
Max Storage 180°C

Applications

PG 76E-10 can be used in asphalt mix designs resulting in cohesive asphalt with good elasticity, suitable for extreme traffic. Special attention must be taken to temperatures during manufacturing, laying, and compaction.

Health & Safety

Treat as hot bitumen. Serious risk of burns. Follow personal hygiene and protection procedures at all times. Refer to the IPS Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and Woqod guidelines for handling and storage.
